Finished - Blue Striped Linden Sweater

She might not look like much, mostly because of my bad habit of forgetting to iron before photographing my clothes, but I'm quite smitten. Say hello to my new Linden sweater. It was a quick and easy sew and I'm very happy with how it turned out. It's great adding some vaguely basic pieces to my wardrobe. A navy sweater is definitely on the basics list but this adds some interest with the texture of the stripes.

What I Wore - B&W Print Mixing

The great thing about having so much black & white clothes is you can just toss a whole bunch of it on and it will go together. The easiest way to wear a print mixing outfit is by having the prints be the same colour. I can't tell you the amount of times I've worn an outfit that is some sort of variation on this same theme, black & white.

Just Finished - Blue Cascade Sweater

Once again I've been lagging behind so the use of the word "just" isn't quite fair. But anyhow I'm getting around to showing off my new sweater. I found the fabric for this sweater at one of my favourite second hand shops and really loved the texture it had in the stripes. It keeps the fabric from being boring dark blue cotton. I knew right away that I wanted to make a sweater out of it.
 

I've used this McCall's pattern multiple times already (here, here, and here) but this is the first time I've used a different version of the pattern. I did make the front pieces less wide because I didn't want it to hang as low as the pattern was designed. Other than that I also added the brighter blue bias tape for a little more visual interest and made a quick belt in case I wanted to wear it closed. With the ridiculously cold weather we've been having I've gotten more than my fair wear out of this.

Clothing Pet Peeves

I should probably mention I have really specific likes when it comes to clothes. There is a long list of things I like to wear and how I like things to fit. I'm pretty sure that is why I like making my own clothes instead of buying. That side of me came into play when I bought this sweater. I've never been one to own many sweaters, weird considering I've always lived in cold cities, but I've fixed that a bit this winter with a couple purchases. I found this sweater on sale at H&M a while back and quickly snapped it up.  I bought it even though the zipper pully made my eye twitch. I have a very odd aversion to matching light colours with dark colours. So the fact there is a white zipper pull with this entirely dark knitted sweater drove me nuts.

A quick snip with my scissors fixed that problem supper quick. Someone else might have left it there, but it was driving me insane. Being weirdly picky with my clothes is something that I've always dealt with in different ways. I know everyone has different preferences and clothing pet peeves I just thought I'd share one of mine.

What I Wore - Blue Once Again

Cold weather means layering all winter long. Not out of place to see me doing it in one of my favourite colours -> blue. It's also great pulling my new long sleeve shirt out and getting some wear out of it. The only slightly difference in my clothing choice is the footwear. After wearing boots for so long its great when there is less snow and I can leave the boots in the closet.

Just Finished - Blue Wooven Sweater

Told you I was going to get right on making something with the blue plaid fabric. There is a small chance that in my rush to get this finished I might have made a little error while doing it... I wanted a sweater with a high neck that wouldn't expose much skin when it gets cold. So obviously in my rush I forgot to make sure it wasn't too high in the front. Because of the zipper, it wasn't going to be the fastest mistake to fix, so being the lazy gal I am, I didn't. Instead I put some matching bias tape inside around the zipper so it can fold down and give a collar look when not zipped.

Faux Fur Sweater

So I may or may not have a slight obsession with faux fur. Instead of going the coat route, somehow I decided I needed a faux fur sweater! The fabric itself is a thick faux fur which I lined with a black satin. I wanted a high neckline and because there isn't any stretch to the fur, I put a zipper along one of the shoulders. If you look at the picture you can see the black suede zipper pull on the right shoulder. Haven't had time to get a picture of it on, but wanted to get it up on the blog since I haven't blogged in a bit.
