Finshed - Black Jacket With Removable Collar

Winter coats are a must... at least when you live somewhere that is cold more often than it's warm. It's great to have options and choices to keep you warm. For some time now I've been looking around looking for a short warm winter coat. Jackets are one of the few things that I usually still buy instead of sewing. The problem is that even though bomber jackets are all the rage recently, it's almost impossible to find one warm enough to wear in winter. Since I didn't really have a choice, I decided to sew myself what I wanted. It might not look like much in this photo because I had it smooshed into my suitcase while traveling but it is exactly what I wanted. 

Considering I didn't actually have a pattern for this coat I went fancier than I usually do on a first attempt. I used a nice warm wool and an even warmer quilted lining; making it deliciously warm without being bulky. It's perfect for winter and with all the bells and whistles I added (zippers, pockets, snaps, and removable faux fur collar) I made a coat which I think is super cute. It's great having a casual jacket to wear when the occasion calls for it.

What I Wore - Denim on Denim

Amazing how simple it is to get dressed when you have an incredibly basic wardrobe. It takes two seconds to decide what to wear when you only have a handful of winter appropriate clothes. The thing is, I don't care if it is faster, I miss having options! I'm in the process of sewing a few things and have definite plans to break my shopping hiatus. Back to options for this gal.

What I Wore - Grey and Red

Spring dressing is a little different when your Canadian sometimes. You'll have days like yesterday where it's actually pretty warm (+5 and sunny) but you're still surrounded by snow. You can't pull out the fun spring clothes (like skirts or florals), but still don't want to dress depressingly wintery. Hence me going for a fun colour combo instead. 

I finally managed to get better photos of my faux fur sweater up on the blog. Love the faux fur on this sweater. The varying shades of grey and how they're blocked out, stop it from being a boring grey sweater. I think the fact that I can even consider a fur sweater could look boring, says way too much about how I like to dress.

What I Wore - Faux Fur and Leather

Yesterday I decided to wear my new sweater paired with my leather jacket refashion. The sweater is ridiculously warm so it was okay to wear running a couple errands during late winter. It was definitely more weather appropriate before I took the picture and it started to snow.

Faux Fur Sweater

So I may or may not have a slight obsession with faux fur. Instead of going the coat route, somehow I decided I needed a faux fur sweater! The fabric itself is a thick faux fur which I lined with a black satin. I wanted a high neckline and because there isn't any stretch to the fur, I put a zipper along one of the shoulders. If you look at the picture you can see the black suede zipper pull on the right shoulder. Haven't had time to get a picture of it on, but wanted to get it up on the blog since I haven't blogged in a bit.

What I Wore - Fur & Tweed

My outfit yesterday was little different that what has been required recently. For the first time, I didn't need a really bulky warm coat with the nice warm day we had. I pulled out my fur vest from an old refashion and paired it with a tweed blazer that I tailored after thrifting it. The blazer is old but I blogged about the vest here.

What I Wore - Blizzard Wear

Isn't it just grand living in a winter wonderland? I feel like this winter is snowier than usual, which is wrecking havoc on all my plans. I wore this coat today because I love being able to wear the collar up and just be engulfed in faux fur. Well, that's until you've been outside in the snow for too long and it ends up just being wet fur...

The snow and cold were not helping me take pictures so this is all I got for ya! I did manage to finish some sewing projects which will be up on the blog soon though :)

Diy Fuzzy Toque

With the extra cold weather we sometimes get in Montreal, I've grown quite a large collection of toques - which I wear quite frequently. I realized I've never seen a faux fur toque before so I thought that might be some fun to have. I had some faux fur laying around from the refashioned coat I did, hence, my new hat. What I Wore - Grungy Black

I added a removable faux fur collar to my leather jacket to make it look a bit different from usual. I'm also wearing my diy wide-brim hat which has to be one of my favourite purchases. Really loved it after I got rid of the the hideous rhinestones.

Being sick and cold today, I made sure to bundle up. It is absolutely ridiculous how much wear I've gotten out of my diy faux fur scarf this winter. The versatility of it is just perfect.

What I Wore - New Refashioned Coat

I recently bought this coat second hand with the idea to spice it up a bit. This wasn't actually what I had in mind but I still love how it looks. The idea was to take this simple fitted black coat and add faux fur to the bottom and collar. However, once I added the faux fur to the collar I decided it would be too much having it at the bottom as well, so I left it as is.

What I Wore - Faux Fur Scarf

I've gotten lots of wear out of my faux fur scarf. This particular time I didn't wear it as a infinity scarf to show just how versatile it is. I love how the black faux fur looks nice and luxurious.   

Toques and fur for the win! Cold Canadian day requires full-on winter gear.

Fur Collar Refashion

I recently bought a camel trench which had a faux fur removable collar. I removed it from the coat because personally I didn't really like it. A couple days later however, I thought it would be a great headband.  

I didn't want to do anything permanent in case I do end up wearing it on the coat, that's where the button holes come into play. 

In my craft stash I found two buttons that fit into the button holes and I cut a piece of elastic that I could string the buttons with. 

I added a quick knot tying the buttons together. 

Placed the buttons through the buttons holes on the collar and voila! 

My new Davy Crockett-esque headband to wear on extra cold days.
