Quick Lazy Refashion

This is one of my mother's old dresses that no longer fits her. I really liked the print and fabric but the fit was all wrong for me. The dress was too big around the arms and longer than I tend to wear dresses. I wanted to change up the dress but I didn't really want anything permanent. I took in the dress under my arms which needed to be tailored then looked into doing another alteration that would be short-term until I could really consider what I wanted.   

What I did was sew a small piece of elastic across the front a little bit below where my waist was (just sewed down at the side seams). The elastic cinched in the dress at my waist and because I sewed it in below my actually waist it raised the hem when it lies at my actual waist.  Then I just tucked the front of the dress into the elastic letting the elastic work like a belt keeping everything in place. Because of the fabric the side seams are almost invisible which means you can't even tell they're not where they're supposed to be. 

The project ended up being a quick and rather lazy refashion that took just a couple of minutes. But considering it gives me a quick dress that I can now wear and leaves my options open in the future for a different refashion I'm happy with the results!

Leather Jacket Refashion

I thrifted this jacket awhile ago and wore it once or twice. Would have worn it more if it wasn't for the fact that the sleeves are too short for me, a lot shorter than they look in this picture. So I decided to pull out my seam ripper and remove the sleeves. All it took was a quick finishing on the sleeves and lining and I had a new leather vest. 

Quick and fairly easy project for a perfect cool weather vest.

Diy Stitchwork Clutch

Found this perforated leather clutch for a $2 while thrifting and thought it would make a great project, all it took was some gold acrylic paint and black crochet thread. First I painted the clutch gold with a couple of coats and let it dry overnight. Then I threaded a large needle with black crochet thread and just went in and out of the holes. I did the flap horizontally and the rest of the clutch vertically to add some contrast. 

I would be lying if I said this was a quick project... I saved the stitchwork to do while watching TV so it didn't actually feel like forever even though it did take a couple of hours. All in all I'm really happy how the clutch turned out and personally I think not only does it look better but it no longer looks cheap.

Summer Pencil Skirt

Found these old curtains while searching through my mother's storage and thought they'd make a great summer skirt! Now I have a new skirt that was essentially free.

Fur Collar Refashion

I recently bought a camel trench which had a faux fur removable collar. I removed it from the coat because personally I didn't really like it. A couple days later however, I thought it would be a great headband.  

I didn't want to do anything permanent in case I do end up wearing it on the coat, that's where the button holes come into play. 

In my craft stash I found two buttons that fit into the button holes and I cut a piece of elastic that I could string the buttons with. 

I added a quick knot tying the buttons together. 

Placed the buttons through the buttons holes on the collar and voila! 

My new Davy Crockett-esque headband to wear on extra cold days.
