New In - Geometric Print Skirt


Introducing my new skirt. Technically I finished it a while ago, but it's new to the blog! This skirt is made out of the same fabric I used to make this coat. Somehow while working with this fabric both times, I manage to not realise it's just a bunch of triangles; I thought the print was more random. Consequently, I placed a column of triangles on the front slightly off centered which really bugs me in pictures. I hardly notice when I'm wearing it so it's not a big deal.

DIY Letter Holder

I've been definitely slacking at producing diy projects lately. Personally I enjoy diy projects because I like making something new without doing any shopping. But that means I'm really at mercy of what I have laying around. Eventually though, I do find something that I want to change. This picture here is a letter holder I had laying around. Pretty basic and it didn't match any of the other decor, so it was up for a change. 


I gave the letter holder a quick coat of white paint and went along with the next step of wrapping it in hemp.


Just a coat of paint and hemp cord and it's a brand new letter holder. This in particular works a lot better with the decor around my place.

Inspiration - Pleated Skirt

Inspiration - Pleated Skirt


The warmer weather has me craving some summer clothes. Honestly, it's not warm enough to wear skirts or dresses, but I want one anyways! If I make something more technically challenging, by the time I finish it will be warm enough to wear it. I've always loved trying new things, so I'm sewing a skirt with pleats for the first time. I haven't decided what it'll look like yet which has led me through the internet rabbit hole for inspiration. I think it will be a fun look to have a skirt that is half pleated, but whether that'll work with the fabric I have lined up, is up for debate. I'm going to start sewing and just hope for the best!

What I Wore - Lots of Denim


The other day I while getting dressed; I had to take a second and just marvel at how much of my clothes I've sewn myself. There's something incredibly satisfying about putting on clothes that you've sewed with your own two hands. I just feel a lot better knowing that my obsession with fashion has moved to a place where I no longer have to worry about my over consumption of fast fashion. It's also great knowing that even though I'm not shopping as much, I still get to have a wardrobe filled with things I love and want to wear.

Just Finished - Gathered Long Sleeve Shirt


I bought this fabric a while ago and finally finished making something out of it.  I liked the print even though I wish it was scaled down a bit; it was hard figuring out what could showcase the print. Eventually I did decide on something to make that was a quick and easy sew. 


The colour and print felt summery but since the weather isn't, I decided to go a different route. I had a pattern for a plain long sleeve top which I dusted off and added a gathered bottom section for more interest. I know the added volume isn't everyone's taste but I think it contrasts nicely with a pair of skinny jeans. I've been sick so I haven't managed to get a pick of it worn but hopefully that will be up soon.

Beige Print Jacket

 
I have a bad habit of not having all the pictures I need for one post on a piece I’ve sewed. I like blogging semi-regularly, so I try to get things up even if it's not exactly a full post. I’m trying to get a routine going of blogging regularly to feel more productive. That being said, I did manage to get pictures of what my last post looks like worn.  



Loved the last version of this jacket so much I wasn't prepared to like this one even more. I know the other version will get more wear because how much I wear blue and how easy it will match most of my wardrobe. But if anything will encourage me to change my habit of not wearing beige, it will definitely be this! I've always been a fan of more geometric prints so this is right up my alley. What I also like about this jacket is that it feels perfectly spring. A great piece to wear when the weather starts getting warmer but hasn't crossed over to actually being warm. 




The fit of this pattern also makes it a winner in my book. Cascade sweaters/jackets have a tendency to be really loose fitting, but this version happens to be slimmer fitting. I don't like tight tops but I also don't like pieces that are too loose and this straddles that line.

New In - Diy Cascade Jacket


I liked my last version of this jacket so much I figured why not make another? I thought this one would work better because this fabric is more lightweight and has more drape. With spring just around the corner, a jacket in a lighter colour would be nice to have. Since I've already made this jacket twice before (here & here), it was a quick and easy sew.  The only thing I did different was in the cutting of the pattern pieces. To save fabric I cut the body in a different direction from the sleeves. 


The cascade part drapes more naturally on this version. That extra drape, plus the print, makes this version a lot more fun. 


Once again, questioning putting a snap or something to give the option of closing it up. Mostly I added this picture to give a glimpse of how fun the print is. I love the the difference between how it looks vertically on the body and horizontally on the sleeves.

Just Finished - Denim Tank


After making my new denim jacket there was only enough fabric to make one more basic piece. I did go back and forth over my options, but eventually, I decided a new top was the way to go. It was a quick project, all I had to do was pull out my diy tank top pattern (I've used plenty of times already here, here, & here) and get to working. I always use my own tank top pattern because it fits exactly the way I want it to. I like my tank tops loose and vaguely long. But the reason I really like the pattern is because of the armhole fit. I personally like it to be loose and low underneath my armpits.


Personally I can never have enough tank tops because I wear them year around. It's nice having one that's slightly different because of the denim fabric with the slight texture to it.

Clothing Pet Peeves


I should probably mention I have really specific likes when it comes to clothes. There is a long list of things I like to wear and how I like things to fit. I'm pretty sure that is why I like making my own clothes instead of buying. That side of me came into play when I bought this sweater. I've never been one to own many sweaters, weird considering I've always lived in cold cities, but I've fixed that a bit this winter with a couple purchases. I found this sweater on sale at H&M a while back and quickly snapped it up.  I bought it even though the zipper pully made my eye twitch. I have a very odd aversion to matching light colours with dark colours. So the fact there is a white zipper pull with this entirely dark knitted sweater drove me nuts.


A quick snip with my scissors fixed that problem supper quick. Someone else might have left it there, but it was driving me insane. Being weirdly picky with my clothes is something that I've always dealt with in different ways. I know everyone has different preferences and clothing pet peeves I just thought I'd share one of mine.

What I Wore - Green Winter Staple


Back in the fall when I posted about searching for a new jacket (x), I did end up finding the one I'm wearing in the photo. I'm used to cold Canadian winters (it's been -20 for like 3 weeks straight back in Montreal) so I thought it would be a fall jacket only. But since the weather has hovered around 0 (usually on the plus side), I've been able to wear this coat quite often this winter. It's rain and wind proof which makes it a lot warmer than I thought it would be. 


Weirdly enough, green is one of my least liked colours. Somehow though, olive green is one of my favourite colours. I haven't posted many outfit photos because this is basically what I've worn more than half the time.

Next Project - Abstract Beige Print Shirt


I dont have a fabric store close enough to visit regularly anymore, so it is really great when I manage to find fabrics at any of the second hand shops around town. I'm actually not known for wearing beige clothes but I really liked the print of this fabric. In honor of trying something new I decided to make an exception for it. I'm not entirely sure what I am going to make out of it yet... but there is enough of it to make just about anything I want.

Denim Cascade Jacket


For some reason I put this jacket up on the blog without a single picture of how it looks on. That was just me being absent minded and a tad bit lazy. It always helps to see something on to really get a feel of how it wears. 


I did mention how happy I am with how this turned out. I've already gotten a bit of wear out of it because I just love it. Personally its great making long sleeve shirts that are actually long on my gangly arms.


I was worried because of the denim it wouldn't drape nicely but it does cascade nicely with a little manipulating. All in all, it ended up being exactly what I wanted.

Just Finished - Denim Jacket


This is another fabric I found while thrifting that I thought I could make something nice out of. With around 2 metres of denim the possibilities were pretty much open. I decided to make something season appropriate like a jacket. 


The pattern (McCall's 6444 which I used once before here) was meant for knits with a bit more drape to them but ended up working just fine with this denim. The cascading part doesn't exactly fall naturally like it does in this picture, but if you just fold the collar down it stays in place.
 

You can wear it in different ways which I love in a piece of clothing. It's great when you can wear something multiple times without it looking the same each time. 

Somewhat contemplating maybe putting some sort of clasp to give the option of closing it up when it gets real cold. Not entirely sure if I will because I wanted a layering piece more than I wanted an actual jacket.
