Finished - Mint Crop Top



After making this dress and tank out of this mint fabric there wasn't much left to work with. Instead of just leaving the tiny piece of fabric with all my others, I decided to quickly sew something with it... a new crop top.


If my closet is going to be full of crop tops I might as well make an effort into making them different. This episode of lazy girl attempts to be different, why not add a sash? Technically it's the same idea I had with the mint tank I made, but this one is in a different place. So... not that creative but I really like it anyways!

Finished - Yellow Crop Top



Following the trend of using my last usuable piece of fabric to make a crop top, here I attempted something a little different. I started cutting out pieces and sewing before I had any clue what I wanted to make. Then I didn't really have anything to close and finish off the top/vest I made. Technically it's finished but really it's in a holding stage until I find something I want to spice it up like a zipper or cool buttons.

What?!?!? A new segment???

As you might be able to tell, I love just whipping up whatever piece of clothing I want. Other people either can't or don't want to. I figured I'll try to find pieces that are vaguely similar to what I've just sewn on the interwebs from now on. I think it will be interesting to see how brands have decided to interpret the look... or to just shop.

Finished - Plaid Crop Top


Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE crop tops, but not as much as my sewing would have you believe. I actually sew so many crop tops to counter my hoarder behaviour. Instead of keeping a small piece of fabric, that isn't enough to make much of anything, I sneak out a crop top and call it a day. When I say this is ALL I could make out of the rest of the fabric I used to make this jacket and this skirt, I'm not exaggerating.


Sometimes you just need to make something quick and simple. It helps that usually things that are pretty simple get the most wear, which is really a win-win situation.

When I get some free time I've gotten into the habit of going on bike rides. Today I threw on my pleated crop top and some shorts and got out into the warm weather that I'm sure isn't going to last much longer.

What I Wore - Lots of Black & White


Weirdly enough, warm weather waited until August to arrive. Of course that means I've dusted off my crop tops and miniskirts. I do believe I mentioned how often I wear my own sewn pieces, here's another example. This embroidered organza crop top diy is a favourite summer piece. The light airiness of it makes it great for warm weather.

New In - Pleated Crop Top


I mentioned on my last diy that I had originally wanted to make a half pleated skirt and changed my mind half way through. After I finished the skirt, I was left with a strip of fabric already pleated. I decided it might be fun to have a pleated top to go with my new skirt.

   
The top is definitely a great piece that has already gotten quite a bit of wear. The pleats give it some visual interest and the slightly longer length for a crop top makes it easier to pair with different pieces.

Diy White Cotton Crop Top


I realize making a new crop top isn't seasonally appropriate, but I only had this much fabric leftover from an earlier skirt. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have. Weirdly enough I already have two other white crop tops, but this one is obviously different. I mean, it's a bit different from the other boxy crop top because that one was transparent.


It also doesn't hurt that I've never been one to be confined by what I should wear. I have no problem just layering my new crop top over something else and wearing it during the winter.

Diy Flag Crop Top


There isn't much summer warm weather left, but that didn't stop me from making a new crop top. I blogged about this fabric when I bought it a while ago and mentioned I didn't know what I was going to do with it. I initially thought it would make a cute dress, but, I'm not a big fan of dresses. I personally prefer having seperates because then you can mix and match your pieces. So I decided to make a top and later get around to making a skirt. I don't have my usual sewing machine so I really wanted a piece that would be fairly simple to make. To make it just a tad bit more interesting I thought triangle ties would tie in the triangles on the fabric. 


I like how it turned out. I'll have to wait and see how much wear I can get out of it now that it's cooling down here in Sweden. But the major positive is now I now the sewing machine I have here works just fine.

What I Wore - White & Brown Summer Layering


It feels nice being able to seamlessly blend my diy pieces and pieces I've bought in my wardrobe. I've worn this crop top on the blog before with just shorts, but this time I decided to layer it over another top I made. I paired the two pieces with my white Mavi jeans which are perfect summer pants. I just folded the jeans under to make them cropped so they wouldn't cover my sandals.

What I Wore - White Embroidered Crop Top


Hey look, it's my new crop top.  Yes those are indeed flowers all over it. For a gal that actually doesn't really like floral prints I do own quite a few things with flowers. 


My favourite thing about the top? The embroidered gorgeousness that is the hem.

New In - Diy Crop Top


Since I've been away for far too long, I really wanted to make sure I got something up on the blog today. Not the best picture of my new top but it's cloudy and dark so it'll have to suffice. I found this embroidered organza fabric in my mother's stash. I don't actually like things that are too dainty and pretty, so to counteract that, I made a boxy crop top. I really need to get a picture of it on to really show what it's like but this is all I have today. I like how it's a bit transparent and has a nice embroidered hem. I think it's going to be a great summer layering piece.

What I Wore - Matching Separates


I'm slightly worried I might end up wearing way to many crop tops this summer. I absolutely love how light and summery they are. I also have a habit of randomly sewing crop tops out of scraps of fabric that would otherwise have gone unused. So to save face, I won't mention how many I own. I personally only wear crop tops so I end up showing only a sliver of skin. Haven't done enough (by enough, I mean any) crunches to wear them any other way.

I like this outfit because it's slightly differrent from what I usually wear. Yellow is one of the few colours I do not have much of in my closet. With my skin tone being very yellow plus the blond hair, wearing yellow ends up feeling like too much. But the varying shades in the floral print happens to be one of the few times yellow has looked fine on me.

New In - Crop Top and Skirt


I managed to get pictures of my new skirt with my new crop top. I personally wouldn't wear the two pieces together on their own because they look a little too "teenage club girl". With something on top, like this peplum blazer however, the skimpiness is toned down with just random flashes of skin peeking through.

What I Wore - Cropped Sweater


Every once in a while you come across an article of clothing that really makes you question its use. Like what you ask? Well how about a cropped sweater. A thick sweater to keep just the very top of your body warm. Let that belly of yours freeze!


Obviously if you're like me, your closet is full of random pieces that most people would balk at. However, I think a cropped sweater is a great layering piece. What's the point of having nice tops if the whole time it's cold you never see them under sweaters and jackets? So yesterday I pulled my cropped sweater out to wear on a day where the weather was working with my outfit instead of against.
