Get The Style - Printed Wrap Dress

The way to my heart? Definitely a printed wrap dress. I will always love a good print and the flattering simplicity of a wrap.

It's almost as if I sew in themes, either colours or pieces. A while ago I was having a bit of a wrap moment. I was busy sewing wraps like it was going out of style. Wouldn't want to pick favourites... but this baby right here is definitely on the list.

When I saw this fabric I knew I wanted a dress. I love the print and wanted something that really shows it off just like this dress.

Finished - Black & White Wrap Dress

Have I ever mentioned how much I love wrap dresses? Something about how easy they are to get on and close really appeals to me. I've showed two others previously (here & here) but this has to be my favourite.

New In - Diy Print Dress With Tie

Sometimes I make bad decisions. Making a very summery dress right when summer is over and it is starting to get cold... is one of them. I can't help it. I thought the dress would be super cute so I made it. I figure summer will come back around eventually and when it does, I'll have a cute dress to wear.

I know it's almost just like the last dress I sewed. This one is different though, it has a tie with a bow. I liked the fit and style so I figured it wouldn't hurt to have another.

New In - Summer Shawl Collar Dress

I love the feeling of having a new dress. There's something about a dress that excites me more than other pieces of clothes. What makes that weird for me to say is that, I think I've mentioned before, I don't really like buying/making dresses. Usually when given a choice, I'd pick any other piece of clothing over a dress. It's not because I don't like dresses - I do - It's because I don't like how a dress is usually the entire outfit. I love clothes and I love variety. And usually there is just less variety in the possible outfit possibilities when dealing with a dress. That being said, I love a nice dress and I think I made myself a pretty cute one.

What I Wore - Blue Summer Layering

Still managing to get use out of clothes I've made myself. The best part of sewing your own clothes is ensuring you sew clothes you'd like to wear often. Yesterday I wore my flounce dress which still is one of my favourite dresses because of the interesting print. I paired that with my blue top I made a while ago in one of my favourite shades of blue. Really the reason I wore the top over the dress is because I have a weird issue about not wearing the same outfit multiple times. Life is more interesting when you change things up.

Quick Lazy Refashion

This is one of my mother's old dresses that no longer fits her. I really liked the print and fabric but the fit was all wrong for me. The dress was too big around the arms and longer than I tend to wear dresses. I wanted to change up the dress but I didn't really want anything permanent. I took in the dress under my arms which needed to be tailored then looked into doing another alteration that would be short-term until I could really consider what I wanted.

What I did was sew a small piece of elastic across the front a little bit below where my waist was (just sewed down at the side seams). The elastic cinched in the dress at my waist and because I sewed it in below my actually waist it raised the hem when it lies at my actual waist.  Then I just tucked the front of the dress into the elastic letting the elastic work like a belt keeping everything in place. Because of the fabric the side seams are almost invisible which means you can't even tell they're not where they're supposed to be.

The project ended up being a quick and rather lazy refashion that took just a couple of minutes. But considering it gives me a quick dress that I can now wear and leaves my options open in the future for a different refashion I'm happy with the results!

Trouble In Diy - Wrap Dress

Without any type of training when it comes to sewing, sometimes I start a piece that puts me through complete and utter hell... This was my most recent project that left me thinking it might be time to start a bonfire and throw it in! I did manage to finish it after multiple days of frustration and I'm actually happy with the end result!

Diy Dress

I know I said the next thing I made would include detailed instructions on how I did it two diys ago... But it turns out I'm a horrible person prone to flights of fancy which include sewing clothes without much know how or picture taking. I'm trying desperately to fix this problem though, so bare with me! This dress is just a simple printed tank dress that has a transparent navy layer that's connected across the top and down only one side. The print of the dress can be seen through the navy fabric and depending on how you want belt it, there can be some peekaboo action along the side.

Diy Printed Flounce Dress

Found this fabric at Value Village for $2 and thought it was a definite keeper. I decided it needed to be a fun and flirty dress. The dress itself is just a tank top pattern that I made longer and then a long rectangular piece that was gathered and sewed to the bottom. I added a navy bias tape to the hem, armholes, and neckline just to finish it off and to look more professional.

Love how the print of the dress looks like panels

Diy Dress

Found this great abstract print at the fabric store that I absolutely fell in love with. At the time I was too lazy to attempt to sew anything extravagant, so instead I made a really easy, shapeless dress. Since the fabric is so thin it works great when belted as well.
